Classifying Two-Dimensional Shapes Educational Resources
Your child has been incorporating the study of 2-D shapes into their play time since they were old enough to focus their site on objects. Now you can help them solidify that understanding with exercises and worksheets that clearly instruct a shape’s name and qualities, while still leaving room for games. That detailed knowledge of shapes will be very useful later on when it is time to learn geometry.
They may be flat, but that doesn’t mean learning about 2-D shapes can’t be fun. From rectangles to hexagons, students can learn the many dimensions (both width and height!) of 2-D shapes from a variety of exercises and activities. They may not be thick, but there is plenty to work with. For younger students, resources help identify and draw basic 2-D shapes, such as circles, squares and triangles. As students advance, worksheets help them understand more complicated categories of 2-D shapes such as polygons and parallelograms and their properties. A variety of worksheets and hands-on exercises ensure that there is something that will help you teach the fundamentals of 2-D shapes. You can even introduce the concept of symmetry by having students create a colorful butterfly.
