Fourth graders will discover the building blocks of geometry in this unit: points, lines, line segments and rays. Students will explore the properties of different shapes, including symmetry, parallel and perpendicular lines, and 900 angles. Students will apply their understanding as they learn to sort shapes based on these properties.

Geometry 6

Understanding how our ten number system works enables students to see interesting and useful patterns and relationships in these math activities. These patterns allow students to develop more efficient mental math strategies when multiplying by multiples of 10 or 100. Students will also review rounding and apply this skill to larger numbers - up to 100,000’s place.

Number Sense 3

Measurement and data in first grade includes such important concepts as comparing the length and weight of two objects using a third object. This guided lesson builds upon third graders' understanding of multiplication in order to further develop fluency with this operation.
