From teachers to farmers, many people and things together comprise a community. In this social studies lesson, students will identify and illustrate their dream community by making a pop-up card.

This lesson will introduce students to intermediate map directions northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast. It also offers practice writing functional texts using transitional words as well as both cardinal and intermediate directions.

Students will use their artistic and directional skills as they practice drawing maps and giving directions. By the time it’s done, everyone will know which way is the right way to go!

This lesson plan teaches kids about W.E.B. Du Bois through video and a short informational text. Students will compare/contrast their findings and create a poster in small groups showing what they learned.
