Getting to the right answer isn't always so easy—it can take addition, division, subtraction and multiplication to discover it. Older elementary students are adept at mathematical fundamentals and are more comfortable with challenging equations. One of the next steps for third, fourth and fifth-grade learners to take on is multi-step, mixed-operations word problems. The Learning Library resources provide a diverse list of assignments that are challenging yet energizing for kids to expand their critical thinking skills and math proficiency.

There are around 60 comprehensive lesson plans, fleshed-out guided lessons, one-off worksheets and printable workbooks on the library’s “bookshelf.” Students finesse their foundational word problem abilities with the mix of teacher-created worksheets. They can challenge themselves with eight-step riddles or speed skating word problems that take Olympic abilities to solve. Refined lesson plans make the challenging task of teaching multi-layered word problems simple for parents and teachers to follow.

Beyond pen and paper, What’s Your Problem? hands-on activity makes these analytical problems tangible by utilizing classic playing cards. Kids create their own math problems using the cards in their hand to equal one of the four “answer cards"" upturned on the table.
