This guided geometry lesson takes second graders on an exploration of 2D and 3D shapes. Kids will learn how to sort shapes, as well as partition them into halves, quarters and thirds. Tangrams are also featured within the exercise in order to give kids practical ways of practicing their new geometry skills. For more printable practice, try the geometry worksheets recommended by our curriculum advisors to accompany this lesson.

Representing data on graphs makes math visual and involves some creativity and design. Plotting data using fractional units takes their learning one step further. Also in this unit, students learn to measure using both traditional units (like inches, feet and yards) and metric units, and how to convert measurements within each system. The concept of measurement gets two dimensional when students explore measuring and working with angles.

Geometry at the preschool level involves identifying shapes and learning positional words. This guided lesson goes over these key concepts and vocabulary words, including top, bottom, up, down, in front of, behind, over, under and next to. Because geometry is one of the more visual math disciplines, it offers a chance for kids to build a fun, vibrant association with the subject of math.

Students are going to take a deeper dive into fractions in this unit! Learners will apply previous understanding of finding equivalent fractions, and converting between fractions and mixed numbers to work with fractions in more complex ways. Students will continue to use visual models to learn and practice adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.

Geometry in third grade introduces kids to the idea that shapes have different categories (rectangles, rhombuses, etc..) attributes (four-sided, etc...) and areas of different values. This lesson, designed by our curriculum experts, provides the guided instruction and practice that third graders need to conceptualize shapes in a deeper way. First grade geometry covers basic shapes, as well as an introduction to 3D shapes. Our team of curriculum experts designed the following guided lesson, which provides an overview of first grade geometric concepts and gives kids lots of opportunities for practice. Calculating the volume of rectangular prisms is a new skill that is introduced in 5th grade. Students will apply mathematical formulas to find the volume of different kinds of figures and also determine the volume of a figure composed of two connected rectangular prisms. Learners will also work with other kinds of measurement when they make larger or smaller versions of figures (to scale) and learn to convert measurements.

Geometry in kindergarten involves the basics of measurement, shapes, and spatial reasoning. Designed and reviewed by teachers, this guided lesson gives kids an overview of these concepts with clear instruction and engaging exercises. Geometry practice in kindergarten can help bolster the skills needed for higher-level concepts in the later grades. You can give kids even more practice by downloading and printing the accompanying worksheets.

In this lesson, kindergarteners will be given the chance to focus on their counting skills with engaging exercises and guided instruction. Just as identifying the letters of the alphabet is a precurser to reading, so is counting to developing math fluency. Soon, your child will learn that the numbers they are counting have associated values, so the more practice they can get with counting the better.
