Sorting and classifying is a key math skill for preschoolers to master before moving on to higher-level concepts. This guided lesson teaches kids to sort objects and identify what doesn't belong. Each exercise aims to engage preschoolers in order to build a positive relationship to learning and make early math a joyful occasion. When finished with the lesson, check out our sorting and classifying worksheets.

In kindergarten, kids will learn all about sorting and classifying. This skill is a building block for math and science concepts to come in the later grades. Knowing how to group numbers, for example, builds a key understanding of numerical concepts. This lesson focuses on sorting and classifying skills for kindergarteners, and comes complete with suggested worksheets for extended learning.

Multiplication is essentially repeated addition, or growing numbers by doubling, tripling, quadrupling, and so on. This unit presents mental models and strategies that help students learn and review the concept of multiplication. Students explore multiplication using arrays, partial products, doubling methods and the standard algorithm to solve numerical and word problems. Students will multiply whole numbers and simple decimals by base ten exponents (i.e. .3 x 103).
