Elementary School Math Resources

Support kindergarten through fifth grade learners with Education.com’s Elementary School Math Resources. With over 8,700 printable worksheets, lesson plans, guided lessons, and hands-on activities, our Learning Library offers comprehensive support for developing essential math skills throughout the elementary years. Many materials align with Common Core State Standards to ensure age-appropriate, structured instruction.

Kindergarten and first grade students build foundational number and counting skills by identifying, writing, and sequencing numbers, starting with numbers within 100 in kindergarten and extending to numbers within 120 in first grade. A deep understanding of these essential skills is important for students as they build number sense throughout the elementary years. They explore addition and subtraction using visual tools like ten frames and number bonds to gain operational fluency. They build a foundation for later place value concepts by thinking about how all two-digit numbers are composed of tens and ones. Pattern recognition, basic measurement, and shape identification promote early logic and spatial reasoning.

In second and third grade, learners deepen their place value understanding and apply strategies to solve multi-digit addition and subtraction problems. Early multiplication and division skills are introduced through arrays, skip counting, and strip models. Students begin working with fractions by partitioning shapes into equal shares in first grade and developing an understanding of fractions as numbers by placing them on number lines, generating equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions in third grade. Students work toward data literacy by creating and interpreting picture graphs, bar graphs, and line plots. Geometry expands to include identifying angles, classifying shapes, and calculating area and perimeter.

Fourth and fifth grade geometry topics challenge students with multi-digit multiplication and division using concrete models like area models as well as place value strategies like partial products and partial quotients. Fraction understanding becomes more advanced, with activities focused on comparing, adding, and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. Students also build a conceptual framework for decimals using the connection between fractions and decimals. By the end of fifth grade, students are able to compare, add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals. Students build confidence with evaluating numerical expressions using the order of operations, solving multi-step word problems, and engage in real-world measurement tasks involving converting measurements within the metric and customary systems and interpreting measurement data on line plots. Fourth and fifth grade geometry topics, such as identifying angles and plotting points on the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, support readiness for more complex topics that are introduced in middle school.
