Students will continue their informational writing project by organizing the information they gathered through research. They will use a graphic organizer to organize their ideas and sort their research notes into meaningful sections.

Informational Essay: Getting Organized Before Writing

Students will have the opportunity to strengthen their informational essay drafts by correcting errors in conventions and mechanics. They’ll use a checklist to guide this critical step in the writing process. 

Informational Essay: Editing

In this lesson, students explore absolute value with and without a number line, compare the absolute values of two numbers, and apply their understanding of absolute value to real-world contexts.

Students will continue their informational writing project by creating an essay outline prior to drafting.

Informational Essay: Creating an Outline for a Draft

Students will have the opportunity to fine-tune their writing by adding, deleting, or reworking content in their informational essay drafts. They’ll use a checklist to guide this critical step in the writing process.

Students begin their informational writing process by gathering information through research. They will use a graphic organizer to record important information and sources and reflect on how to present the information.

Informational Essay: Prewriting With Research

Give your readers the tools to decipher the meaning of Greek and Latin based words. In this lesson they review the meaning of commonly used prefixes, suffixes and roots and then practice constructing and deciphering words.

Using Word Parts to Determine the Meaning of Words

How do you know if a source is trustworthy and credible? Help students find out with this research skills lesson plan! Use a checklist with guiding questions to explore examples and nonexamples of quality resources for research. 

Evaluating Sources for Research

In this lesson, students read and then listen to the audio version of a classic poem, Auld Lang Syne. They'll use a graphic organizer to compare and contrast their experience of reading the poem to listening to musical version of the poem.
