Fractions are everywhere! In this hands-on lesson, your class will work together in groups to find real-world examples of fractions. As they discover more complicated fractions, students will create their own word problems with them.

Provide students with an opportunity to identify the wholes that are correctly divided into halves, thirds, and fourths (equal shares). Use this activity alone as a support lesson or alongside Cookie Fractions Fun.

It’s pizza time! Students will be introduced to the concept of partitioning shapes to create fractions that demonstrate halves, fourths, and eighths. This lesson is the first of two lessons that address second grade fraction concepts.
