In this hands on lesson, students create squares with different fraction pieces while building their knowledge of adding fractions with different denominators.

It’s pizza time! Students will be introduced to the concept of partitioning shapes to create fractions that demonstrate halves, fourths, and eighths. This lesson is the first of two lessons that address second grade fraction concepts.

Slice those pieces and mix it up! In this lesson that follows “Slice It Up! Part One,” students will begin recognizing different ways to create equal shares in whole shapes, creating a fraction poster by the end of the lesson.
