This lesson gives students a structure to help them summarize fiction texts. When they are skilled at summarizing, they will be more capable of exploring various fiction genres. Use it as a precursor to Fiction Genres Library Exploration.

Use this lesson to help your students learn about partitioning shapes into parts with equal areas. Students will explain rectangular shape area in fractions of a whole.

Your students will have a blast thinking about polygons and making these paintings inspired by Wassily Kandinsky!

With this activity, students will identify shapes, build 3-D shapes, and practice describing shapes with a partner.

Shape up your students' understanding of geometrical attributes with this hands-on math lesson. Students will gain a better understanding of how to describe a shape by the number of edges and vertices it has, rather than by its name.

Help your students learn about earth with this lesson that teaches them about the most basic component-dirt!

Give your students a great basis in mathematics with this lesson that has them use a number line to find differences for basic subtraction facts.

Give your students a head start on 3D shapes with this lesson that has them use their observational skills to identify what differentiates the shapes.

Teach your students about the attributes that make each shape unique. Use this as a stand alone lesson or as a pre-lesson for Are You Connected to Me?

In this lesson, your students will use hands-on visuals to learn about fractions! Your students will love using manipulatives to practice placing fractions on a number line.

In this lesson, your students will play "I Spy" to identify 3-D shapes. They will use language to describe the shapes and be able to compare them easily.

Whether students are revising handwritten drafts or work that has been composed on the computer, this lesson will help your writers understand some basic strategies and copyediting symbols for polishing their writing.

Adverbs—they're anything but basic! Introduce your students to a misunderstood part of speech with this adverb lesson plan. Students will learn to identify the different ways adverbs are used before writing their own descriptive sentences.

Explore 3-D shapes with your students and help them identify and talk about the relevant attributes of three-dimensional shapes, all while using real-world examples! Use this as a stand-alone lesson or alongside the Shape Models lesson.

One of the basic concepts in science is recognizing that all things can be classified as living or nonliving. In this lesson, your students will explore the characteristics of living and nonliving things with engaging hands-on activities.

Students will get lots of editing practice in this lesson! After reviewing basic editing symbols, students will edit provided stories and a partner’s work. Student will also learn about editing tools used in word processing.

Geometry is a core of mathematics in the early years. Help students recognize and draw shapes given specific attributes such as the number of corners and sides. This lesson can be a stand-alone activity of paired with 2-D Shapes!

Use this lesson to gauge your students’ basic comprehension of fiction text. If they can answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions, you know they have a handle on it and it’s time to get into more critical thinking!

Teach your students about symmetry with real life objects! Have them draw lines of symmetry for various shapes, food items, and objects.

The proof is in the pudding! Use this lesson to teach your students how to use text evidence as proof when answering questions after reading. They will use evidence-based terms as they answer basic comprehension questions.

Bring on the polygons! Your students will build their understanding of polygons and sort shapes into categories based on their attributes in this lesson.

Students often understand the basic conventions of writing, but may need support in incorporating these skills into their work. In this lesson, students will review some of the more common capitalization and punctuation errors and apply their editing skills to real writing.

Use this lesson to teach your students to describe the characters' actions using the basic sentence structure of subject + verb + object. This lesson can stand alone or be used as a pre-lesson for the How Do You Solve a Problem? lesson.

Students will learn out how to partition a rectangle using by partitioning shapes with rows and columns.

This winter-themed lesson plan, which incorporates the book Tree of Cranes by Allen Say, teaches students about Japanese traditions and customs. They will review the basic elements of a narrative story, and then write their own narratives about a special event or moment in their life.

Students will solve area problems by multiplying side lengths for rectangular shapes in real world contexts.

Notetaking doesn’t just have to fit in a square! In this lesson, students will use different shapes to help them take notes and remember what they should be paying attention for as they read.

It’s pizza time! Students will be introduced to the concept of partitioning shapes to create fractions that demonstrate halves, fourths, and eighths. This lesson is the first of two lessons that address second grade fraction concepts.

Go to any length to test your students' understanding of perimeter calculations. Students will use their understanding of the perimeter of rectangular shapes to create rectangles that have different side measurements but equal perimeters.

Slice those pieces and mix it up! In this lesson that follows “Slice It Up! Part One,” students will begin recognizing different ways to create equal shares in whole shapes, creating a fraction poster by the end of the lesson.
