This year, second graders will be introduced to the concept of multiplication using repeated addition. For example, they will learn that 5+5+5+5+5 is the same thing as saying 5x5. This guided lesson will use manipulatives to teach kids about repeated addition and give them plenty of opportunities to practice addition within 100. Download and print the accompanying worksheets for even more addition practice.

This typing lesson helps kids practice typing using keys in the top row of a computer keyboard. Using a series of interactive exercises, kids will gain confidence typing top row keys with speed and accuracy. Encourage your students to become more independent computer users with this top row typing lesson.

As students progress in their typing skills, they'll want to branch out from the home row. This lesson introduces young typers to the top row on a keyboard, allowing them to expand their typing vocabulary and gain independence as computer users. These lessons will help kids exercise correct finger placement, typing accuracy, and speed.

Looking for more bottom row keyboarding practice? Repetitive practice will help your children develop muscle memory! These bottom row keyboarding games slowly integrate symbols to help your child create complete sentences. To end the lesson, children will get to combine all the letters from every row to make words!

Comparison is one of the most crucial math skills second graders learn, because it can be applied to so many other disciplines across the elementary school curriculum. In this measurement and data lesson, kids will work on object comparison and graphing. The exercises ask kids to list objects in size order, estimate length, note differences in length, and make bar graphs.

This literature lesson guides kids towards a deeper understanding of second grade texts through an exploration of character, setting, and plot. Kids will be challenged to answer the who, what, where, when and why of a story, in addition to determining the story's message. Two versions of the same story will be presented in order for second graders to see story elements in action.

This lesson is a continuation of place value practice, and offers more instruction on identifying tens and ones in 2-digit numbers. Once first graders are able to quickly identify place value they are then able to understand on a deeper level what larger numbers actually mean. This is crucial for the math fluency that will support higher-level concepts in the later grades.
