Suffixes Exercises

Show students how they can change the meaning of a word by tacking on a few extra letters with these suffixes exercises. If students are having trouble identifying the different parts of a word, root words exercises will show them through clear examples how each word, whether it contains a prefix or a suffix, contains a core set of letters.
Just like prefixes at the start of a word can help you figure out its meaning, suffixes give clues at the end. There are tons of common suffixes out there, like -ize, -est, and -ence, and your student probably already knows quite a few. Suffixes might seem small, but they do a lot -- they can tell us what a word might mean, and they can also change a verb's tense or part of speech! If your kid wants to learn more or need a little help remembering them all, use these suffix exercises for quick a quick way to boost learning. We have lots of ways to learn them, too, from multiple choice to fill-in-the-blank. Once they feel comfortable with suffixes, they might want to try moving on to general word meanings, or learn prefixes if they haven't already. With just a few spins around these exercises, your student will soon be a suffix star!
