Metaphor Exercises
Metaphor Exercises
Metaphors can make a child's writing sing. Introduce your child to the art of metaphors with these metaphor exercises, a great addition to their language learning routine. Have them read some short poems or sentences and decode the metaphors in them, and once they're through, they'll be ready to write their own? For more creative writing, try the metaphor's sister figure of speech, the simile.
Metaphors are a great way to dress up your writing. They require a bit of practice to pull off, though -- if you say "the moon was a diamond," you have to make sure your reader doesn't think you mean the moon became an actual diamond. Practice using metaphors with our metaphor exercises, a great place to start when it comes to higher-level creative writing. Our metaphor exercises will help your student practice figuring out what metaphors actually mean, and even try breaking down a metaphor in a poem. They can also read sentences with metaphors in them and try to figure out what the metaphors actually mean, so they can better understand them when they come across them in reading. Similar to metaphors are similes, and we have exercises on those, too. Metaphors are an advanced bit of language arts to study, but with our exercises, we've got your budding reader covered.
