Mister, Doctor, Avenue, Minnesota...for some words, abbreviations can make our lives much easier. Help your child practice common abbreviations with these online abbreviation exercises. Quick and to the point, our abbreviations quizzes will run them through some often-used ones, like days of the week, addresses, and titles, and show how they're written.
Abbreviations are a way to replace longer words with a group of letters. Your student has probably seen them before, on street signs, maps, and reference books. However, the only way to truly know them is to memorize them and get them down pat. If your child still struggles with abbreviations, help them get to know some common abbreviations with our abbreviations exercises. Let them practice days of the week, months, states, streets, and types of measurement in these quick online exercises. We'll take your child through some quick fill in the blank questions that will help solidify their understanding of how to write abbreviations. Though abbreviations may not seem as important as, say, sentence structure or parts of speech, they come up quite often in everyday writing, and deserve just as much attention as anything else. Once they've finished up with these, they can move on to proper nouns, many of which use abbreviations.
