What is a robot? What can robots do? Computer programmers tell robots what to do by creating a sequence of commands. In this lesson, students work in pairs to program a robot to act out the story from the mini story book My Friend.

This winter-themed lesson plan, which incorporates the book Tree of Cranes by Allen Say, teaches students about Japanese traditions and customs. They will review the basic elements of a narrative story, and then write their own narratives about a special event or moment in their life.

This lesson plan will have students practice their reading skills and build their reading stamina. This can be used as an introduction to kindergarten reader's workshop!

In this lesson, students will practice "reading" pictures. They will look at the details in pictures in order to make predictions about what happens in a text. This lesson can be used alone or with the Predicting Pictures lesson plan.
