Encourage your students to translate their understanding of theme to poetry. In this lesson, students will evaluate the theme of poems by sketching pictures and citing text evidence.

Use this lesson to introduce the tool of base-ten blocks to your students. This scaffolded EL support lesson can be used as a stand-alone activity, or prior to teaching Three-Digit Addition with Base-Ten Models.

Students will practice mental math and harness their discussion skills through addition problems of like mixed numbers. This lesson may be used on its own or as support for the lesson Adding Mixed Numbers Using the Decomposition Strategy.
