This lesson teaches students the basics of capitalization. Get your young writers engaged in writing fun sentences as a class before they write their own, using correct capitalization of course!

Students will explore self-esteem through the book I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont. They will write secret kindness notes to others and to themselves, and reflect on how self-esteem can support connection with oneself and the community.

Once students have selected a topic related to a piece of literature they have read and mapped out their argument, this lesson will help them turn their prewriting into an essay.

In this lesson, students will practice identifying the subject and predicate of a sentence and making predictions with textual evidence as they read short fictional texts. Use it as a stand alone lesson or as a precursor to What's Next?
